The Thinking Behind Our Feelings Activity (9:43)
Karla Hansen, author of The Shimmering Secret leads 3rd grade students in an exploration of how thoughts create the feelings that make up our experience of life. Bullying and blaming our feelings on other people or situations are included in the discussion. Four different colors representing universal feelings of mad, glad, sad or afraid are used to discover the inside-out nature life and the true ‘secret’ to happiness.
AUTHOR KARLA HANSEN READS A SHORT VERSION OF THE SHIMMERING SECRET TO ELEMENTARY STUDENTS. (29:57)
The Shimmering Secret sparkles with a delightful narrative and vibrant, full-color illustrations. Set in an ancient Chinese village, the tale provides a cross-cultural message of hope and transformation. The adventures of little Hu Mei (rhymes with You May) and Wang Fu (the village bully) lead youngsters of any age to the secret that lives within each and every one of us. The ageless struggle to understand human feelings and behavior is answered when the children discover there is a core goodness beyond measure, something that’s always resided within them. In a time of much violence and unrest, The Shimmering Secret comes along with the basic truth that innocents and bullies alike share the ‘secret’ to hope, joy, forgiveness, and transformation.
